Acacia schaffneri (Twisted Acacia) is native to Mexico and south Texas. The mature branching structure has a striking twisting pattern within the tree canopy. A very interesting unique look for a tree. The leaves are small fine fern like with a straight 1/2 to 1 inch reddish thorn. Colder winters it can be deciduous and is much more hardier than the A. smallii (farnesiana). The yellow fragrant ball flowers along the branching structure. A young tree looks a little weedy or wild needing selective structural pruning until establishment.
