Bauhinia lunarioides
is a beautiful accent
plant maturing to about
6 to 8 feet high and 5
to 6 feet wide. This
shrub is a hardy
evergreen desert plant
from Mexico's Chihuahuan
Desert. The leaf is a
green to gray color
approximately 1 inch in
diameter, shaped like a
butterfly. The orchid
shaped flower varies in
color from white to pink
blooming from spring
into summer with
irrigation. Fall rain
can trigger additional
bloom.
Commercial production is
limited with some
nurseries growing the
white flowered plant.
